Here's the basic floor plan that I have in mind:

The biggest change (besides the daunting clean-up) is that the west desk has been pushed into the corner and the shelf put on top of it (Jim's idea). The Reprap gets shifted over and one workstation is set up next to it (iron, solder, vise, etc.). The other desk is set up for hardware fabrication/modifacation on one side (drill press, big vise, hand tools on peg-board on west wall, etc.), and another solder station on the other side, along with power supply and scope.

It seems to me like a pretty attainable goal. Below is a large shopping list of some things that we need, as well as some things that would be real cool to have:

From Sparkfun Electronics:
- Saleae Logic 8ch USB probe
  Very sleek - samples at up to 24MHz. Do we need it? Not terribly. Is it really cool? Absolutely. Would we be cooler if we had it? Without a doubt - $149.95
- A low-cost soldering station
  It would be great to have two soldering stations, and this is a decent quality iron at a great price - $39.95
- Sugru
  How could we live without it? - $17.95
- Screwdriver set
  Cheap and pretty extensive. - $9.95
- Solder
  A thinner gauge than what's in there now. - $19.95
- Iron tip cleaner/tinner
  Makes tips last many times longer, not to mention perform a whole lot better. - $8.95
From Jameco Electronics:
- Fume extractor
  I prefer to inhale as few toxic fumes as possible. - $68.95
- Spare filters for the fume extractor.
  Good. - $7.95
- Anti-static wrist strap
  It would probably be good to have a couple of these lying around. - $6.95
- IC extractor
  A tool that may see very little use, but is absolutely irreplaceable when an IC needs safe extraction. - $1.65
- 100MHz probe
  Two of these for the 2ch scope. - $29.95
- Digital multimeter
  Not sure what we have for DMMs, but this is one seems nice and does frequency counting which can come in very handy. - $59.95
- 0.2Hz-2MHz sine/square/triangle/TTL/CMOS function generator.
  Not sure if we need a function generator (I'd certainly play with it!), but this one is pretty compact and powerful at a great price. - $249.95
- Shapelock
  This is the prototyping thermoplastic I use; VERY cool stuff. - $24.95
- Component kits:
  These kits will add up quick, but in a perfect world we'd have them all!
  - Resistors - $27.95
  - Ceramic capacitors - $39.95
  - Electrolytic capacitors - $39.95
  - Diodes - $39.95
  - Transistors - $69.95

The total cost of everything here (including 2x BNC probes and 2x anti-static wrist straps) comes out to $951.63 + shipping... holy shit!! Assuming that that is well over budget, this list needs some serious filtering. Of course the function generator and logic analyzer are large chunks of that price, as well as the component kits.
