Reading David Crowley's "Communication in History: Technology, Culture, and Society" and exploring other sources for an understanding of the effects of the internet, television, radio, and mass media on US policies and culture.

I’m incredibly interested in studying how the progression of technology has influenced society (and the collective memory of a society). I’ve looked online for a text to study from and have found one that looks like a good starting point, it’s called Communication in History: Technology, Culture, Society. You can view the table of contents at: Communication in History: Technology, Culture, Society . This tutorial will allow me time to research the history of technology through the last two centuries, looking at the different aspects of them and how they influenced (or failed to).

This will be my first tutorial and step in the direction towards any Plan-related work. My idea of what I want to study has gone through many changes already, and has been influenced by each of the classes I have taken thus far. I’ve studied some acoustics, and would like to study more media and communications and how they relate to society and memory. This semester I am taking American Culture in the Cold War Era, Social Psychology, Digital Multimedia, and Electronic Music II. I am hoping that this tutorial will allow me to begin researching resources for Plan and build a better basis of understanding that I will need to move forward.
I’m incredibly interested in studying how the progression of technology has influenced society (and the collective memory of a society).
For a starting point, I will look at the text book Communication in History: Technology, Culture, Society . I will use this information along with the classes I am taking concurrently to help shape an idea for Plan.
I plan on covering a section each week (there are 8 sections). Seeing as how I would like this tutorial to be a research-like lab time, I would like to use it as a forum to share my findings and begin working on a thesis that could be in the form of a final paper. I would also not be opposed to smaller papers to measure progress, but I’m not sure how that would exactly work. I am definitely looking for feedback on how this tutorial should work, as this is my first ever.
