The one laptop per child project (
http://laptop.org) is an ambitious and controversial attempt to develop and distribute a networked laptop to children aged 6-12 in developing countries. Regardless of whether the project is ultimately successful or not, it has created a novel computing platform which has captured the imagination of many. This course will provide an opportunity to find out what exactly these things are, and to discuss the educational and political issues surrounding them. The format of the class will be an open-ended seminar with discussions led by all participants. Prerequisite: None
