After pulling in a lot of directions, we decided :
  1. look at an IDE, probably Eclipse
  2. build a gui for a simple math-ish problem, like 8 queens
  3. start in python, but perhaps branch into different language examples (Java, C)
  4. lisp ???
  5. maybe something with blender ???
