tango written assignment
Please submit by email (to mahoney@marlboro.edu)
one of the two following assignments,
by midnight Friday May 7.
In either case, use the vocabulary which we
have developed this semester and which I summarize
in
these vocabularly notes.
If you have any questions, find me or ask by email. - Jim
option 1 : open ended
Cite specific examples of the tango moves
and styles we've been working on this semester
from online tango videos. Be specific, saying
things like "In the video at url ____, which
is in the ____ style, the sequence from ___ sec
to ___ sec shows the leader doing ____ while
the follower does ___, followed by ___ and
then ____."
You should cite at least 3 videos, and write
a page or two description on what's in them.
You're free to use any argentine tango videos
you like. Here are a few suggestions :
... or anything from the video links on the
resources page,
or what you can find by searching "argentine tango" on youtube, google, etc.
option 2 : specific question
Watch the following videos, and
answer the specific questions about each.
(These are the same questions as last year.
If you've taken the class before, please
do the other "open ended" assignment.)
questions 1
What is the follower doing in
- the first part (4 - 10 sec),
- the middle part (13 - 19 sec), and
- the last part (22 - 27 sec)?
question 2
- Describe what they're doing.
- Is this open or close embrace, and what makes it so?
question 3
- What are those big follower leg movements (09-10 sec), and
- how are they being led?
- At what point does the follower "go to the cross", and
- how is that that being led?
- Is this open or close embrace, and what makes it so?
question 4
Explain what style of tango is being danced in
each of these two clips, and what makes you think so.
question 5
Describe and name at least five different tango movements that you see in this video clip. (If you need more inspiration, you may also use
either of the videos from question 4.)
sources
All but one of these clips are from longer videos you can watch online,
and I encourage you to do so.
