preparation

This page details what you should do each week in preparation for class. For the most part this is not formally graded, it's just what you should be doing before class (the formally graded material will appear on the assignments page).

Tuesday 29th Jan

Show up. Also, read the Student Welcome Letter from the text (see the resources page).

Thursday 31st Jan

Nothing specific, but you might want to see if you can install and start up R on your own computer or make sure you can access it on the lab machines. Also, there is reading for Tuesday that you can get started on, see below.

Tuesday 5th Feb

Read either Sections 1.1-1.4 of OpenIntro Statistics or Sections 1.1-1.5 of Collaborative Stats (see resources page).

Thursday 7th Feb

Finish Chapter 1 of OpenIntro Statistics or Collaborative Stats.

Tuesday 26th Feb

Read about probability. Either 2.1 and 2.2 of OpenIntro Stats or Chapter 3 of Collaborative Stats.

Tuesday 5th and Thursday 7th Mar

Distributions. Either Coll Stat 4, 5 and 6 (ski[pping all the optional bits) or OpenIntro Stats 2.4, 2.5, 3.1, 3.2, 3.4, 3.5.2. There is a lot here, and you should browse in the parts not listed as well. We have (or will have) talked about all the big ideas in class; this reading should fill in the details and give you some practice. On Tuesday we'll go over anything you found confusing or difficult and on Thursday we'll focus more on initial difficulties with the assignment.
Also, please make sure that your Piglike games are up-to-date on the wiki page for Thursday's class.
