Hairspray is about a young girl who's main concern in life is how high her hair can get, and her favorite dance television show. She desires to be on television with such a passion, that her reluctant overweight mother gets pulled into her schemes and they both become spokeswomen for overweight teens and ladies throughout the country. This film also includes a sub-plot concerning racial segregation of the early 60's
