computing power

virtual reality over-estimate: 600dpi at 12" for 90deg width is 1e4, so 1e8 pixels/image. Then multiply by 8 bits for color and 24 fps gives for a total of about 2e10 bps (20Gbps),or 10GB per second. This is far higher than signal coming out of our optic nerves, both because we have this high a resolution only at center of view (eye movement gives illusion of seeing it all this way), and because of filtering/processing early on. Actual data rate from human vision is measured to be around 10Mbps Current CPU speed are in GHz range with 32 bit channels, so are in this same 1e10 bps ballpark. For comparison: CD 0.3 Mbps DVD 5 Mbps blu-ray 50 Mbps ethernet 10-1000 Mbps

from the previous .pdf : "While the [...] details remain trade secrets [...] text is parsed to flag syntactic and grammetical structure [...] 500,000 unique word vocabulary and 16 million word concept net [...] 500 linquistic and grammatical features tagged [...] multiple mathematical models [...] associate features extracted from the text with scores in the training set [...] to yield a single assigned score." Overall the system replicates scores of human raters.
