Statistical Methods And Analysis In Human Rights
This presentation will talk about the place that statistical methods and analysis
have in the protection of human rights.
I will look at the issue from a qualitative and quantitative perspective. From the
qualitative side, I will address the ethical concerns that many researchers have with
using statistics, a generally impersonal and 'big picture' type of analysis, to look
at the emotionally and politically fragile situations that occur in the midst of a
human rights crisis.
From the statistical side, I will talk about what quantitative researchers need to do
to make their research methodologically and ethically suited for a human rights context.
In doing this I will talk about the importance of accessibility of statistical work and
talk about the specific statistical work I am doing for my Plan.
