This week I tried making a few fabric bend sensors but did not have much luck getting the newly made ones to work. I'm thinking that I should try to make some quick and dirty sensors then worry about the shiny finished product (neoprene bend sensors) once I actually figure out a model that works.
(pictures to come later)
I think that if I had followed the instructions more closely and perhaps used thinner materials it would have come out better. I guess the problem is that the seams along the edges press the layers of fabric together too tightly, reducing the overall range of the sensor.
I'm wondering if there's a way to make the sensor less noisy. I think using newer stretchier materials would at least partially solve this. I've noticed that the sensor I made last semester for gadgets takes a little while to reset back to a neutral value, probably because I used older neoprene which was less elastic.
