I ordered all of my components last week. I just created a parts page on the wiki with notes on most of what I ordered. I see this page as a work-in-progress, which will eventually become a parts list to go with instructions to build this project.
Obviously assembling everything will be pretty time consuming, and that's my next big project.
The first program I want to write is simple; just something to interface with MiniStageConsole. All it needs to do is output a unique MIDI note for each button/slider and pass data that comes in on the serial line to the MAX 485 chip.
Also, I have a Hakko FX888 soldering iron on the way. It ran me $100, but the consensus from reviews is that it's one of the best soldering irons out there. Really accurate temperature control and it sounds like it should last forever. I guess I'll hold off on getting a multimeter or anything else fancy for now...
