midterm projects

Grades, comments, and a rubric are up.
-- grading rubric -- project: - concept the idea : technical merit, coolness, on topic - planning process : organization, timeliness, progress reports - execution product : does it work? writeup: - writing clarity; should let someone else replicate the work - pictures and movies - very helpful - references links to sites you used for parts, code, ideas, ... - parts list links, prices, ... what you would want to know - code software sketch (if applicable)
In general: great work.
Next week's assignment is up: final project proposal, and reading about the 3D printer

class projects

Discuss 3D printer, its status, and what we do with it next. I would like to see us put into a working state ...
xbee : I've purchased two xbee radios, and am in the process of playing around with them to see how they work. Possible class (or some subset of the class) project if anyone wants to join in. (Ben is working with similar gear for his interactive theater lighting project.)
motors/lego : I have an as-yet-unassembled "motor shield" from Lady Ada, and would like to use it to to build something like a robotic tank. We have lego motors and sensors; adapting the motor shield to the legos would be one way to go. I don't yet have a motor power supply; probably will get a rechargeable battery and matching charger if I pursue this. Another possible class (or subset of the class) project.
