There are many excellent resources on data visualisation out there. Here are a few. Some will occasionally be set as required readings for class, others are here simply for the curious who want to expand their outlook. If you have ideas for additions, please send them along.

The following are all on the reserve shelf under Ollis (or will be soon):
- The Functional Art, Alberto Cairo. A current practioner's view of the creation of infographics and data visualisations for newspapers and similar outlets. Highly recommended.
- Show Me The Numbers, Stephen Few. Comprehensive discussion of all of the little details (and big ideas) behind the clear and effective use of charts and tables.
- The Visual Display of Quantitative Information, Edward Tufte. Tufte is one of the gurus of data visualisation, known most for insisting on a high information to ink ratio: junk and clutter must be ruthlessly cut to best let the data speak.
- Information is Beautiful, David McCandless. Playful and experimental. Certainly beautiful and fun but, arguably, not always the most effective for conveying information.

- A reading list that Alberto Cairo recommends for his courses. Mostly single articles but some sites too.

Rather than keeping updating in two separate places, these will be housed on the
Stats resources page, so head there to see them. If there are some that are specific to our work in this class we'll add them here.
