Pre-Class Assignments
- PCA 1 due Tuesday, Jan 27:
- Skim through the applications of section 1.1. Find one that interests you and come prepared to class ready to tell us about it.
- Download SAGE onto your computer and play around with it some.
- You'll need to remember Calculus: check out pages 1-3 of the Cheat Sheet (from Paul's online math notes) and try these problems.
- PCA 2 due Thursday, Jan 29:
- Read Sections 1.2, 1.3. There's a lot of terminology here, so make yourself a list of definitions and bring it to class on Thursday.
- PCA 3 due Tuesday, Feb 3:
- Read Section 2.1. Pay particular attention to the examples and come prepared with questions about these. Also, pick one or two of the exercises and come prepared to class having at least attempted (if not, completed) these problems. Finally, familiarize yourself with the statements of Theorems 2.1.1 and 2.1.2. We'll work through the proofs of these together in class.
- Read Section 2.2. Approach the reading as you did section 2.1: come prepared with questions about the examples and the statements of the theorems, and also try a few problems.

- Read Section 2.6.
- Skim through a section from chapter *4*, and prepare an exercise to present to the class on Tuesday
