April 26
for the good of the order
Hand back quiz 2 & discuss. (Executive summary: everyone is passing the course.)
You can check out
my answers, which I'll go over in class.
At this point the grading policy for the semester looks like
20% two in-class quizes
30% three homework assignments
20% written & oral data analysis project
30% overnight comprehensive final (emailed to you noon Sun May 8 ; due noon Mon May 9)
The project dates:
- Look at your data sources today.
- Please put your data on the projects page if you haven't already.
- And if you don't have data yet, find something "real soon" ... talk to me or Beth if you need help.
- Show to class one week from today, Tue May 3 last class.
- Please put any pictures or discussion on the projects page ... which you can then put into your writeup.
- Written version due by Friday May 6
I will put out an optional 4th homework (brownie points!)
on the statistical tests I'll discuss Thursday.
On Thursday I will give a lightning-fast overview of several statistical tests:
- Analysis of variance (ANOVA)
- Chi Square test
- linear regression
(In the best of all possible worlds we would have another couple of
weeks to go over these in more detail.)
Please browse the wikipedia articles and/or our textbook sections on those three topics before Thursday.
Also today (if time at the end) : course evaluations
