Marlboro Student Union Wiki
Welcome to the wiki for the Marlboro Student Union. The purpose of this site is to consolidate resources and communication for the union, and to some degree provide a public face. If you are a student and would like a "student" login that lets you edit pages, please e-mail the admin (aleck @ marlboro.edu).
Mission Statement
Guiding Principles
- Our communications will be respectful and civil.
Motives and Culture
The students rallying around a new union have come together for a variety of reasons. To dispel some of the rumors going around, here is a brief articulation of our motives and the nature of this new student forum.
- We are not adversarial in our purpose. Some of the topics or events we wish to explore may involve conflict between students and staff or faculty. When exploring these issues, we aim to keep a broad perspective in mind and to follow our guiding principles.
- Why not Town Meeting? While many of us make good use of Town Meeting, it does not provide some important functions. The Union provides a student only forum to collect, discuss, identify and articulate broad student sentiments and concerns. We identify as a constituency group with perspective and circumstance different than those of faculty or staff. Additionally, Town Meeting is structured to try to pass legislature or resolutions that have already been formed. The Union, like other temporary student forums, is adapted more for conversation and the formulation of ideas.
