This week did a ton of work on this project and got the second phase of it complete. Put hundreds of products in and made the very final tweaks to the site. Worked on reclassifying the products so the search showed up accurately (see categories picture). Really worked on continuity in terms of how all the pages flowed together. Send him pictures of the text and variation information and received his revisions and implemented them (see revisions pic). Also met with him for a working session, at which point I warned him, the "visual" section of this contract will be more or less finished and we will expect payment. Nate, dan and I sat together after I made sure nate looked neat and professional which is no small task. I also planned with nate exactly what we would give him access to and decided only to share the link with him and do edits while hiding how we did them. I figure the less information he has the better, since he's paying us quite a bit for this thing. Don't want him to think it's childs play.
Nate left and I sat down with dan and discussed the different sections of the website we'd completed, the hours we'd expected to work, the hours over we'd finished and then explained that I would not charge him for the full hours- more for about half. We ended up getting about 650 dollars more for the hours over we worked- not too bad since some of those hours were learning hours.
all told for parts 2/3 of the website contract, Nate and I have earned about 8.2 thousand dollars, and anticipate another 1k after that. Dan is also quite happy because he feels like he's getting a deal and is impressed with our communication and flexibility and willingness to customize and accommodate any changes he makes. He's actually been great to practice negotiating salary on because he said he "inherently trusts" me and so pretty much whatever I venture to say that I would like to charge, he's been pretty supportive.
Thankfully this section of the contract is done (I've also included the contract below) so now we just have the SEO parts to deal with and then figuring out how to offer continuous support in a way that pays the bills and does what he needs and isn't too much of a PITA for us.
