Alex's Work

• Installed Putty client for windows SSH
• Verified SSH key using Lish
• Connected via SSH:
  • Installed Updates
  • Renamed localhost to Rome
  • Set server to EST
  • Used sudo apt install unattended-upgrades for automatic updates.
    • Enabled with sudo nano /etc/apt/apt.cof.d/50 unattended-upgrades
  • Created non-root user (Noms)
    • Added user to sudo
  • Generated 4096 bit RSA key with PuttyGen
  • Setup Noms user with public/private keys
    • Tightened permissions on key file with sudo chmod -R 700 .ssh &&chmod 600 .ssh/authorized_keys
  • Installed LAMP stack using sudo taskel install lamp-server

* Bash Shell commands: The commands used in Terminal/Putty such as cd. Long lists of commands online.
* Admin Scripting: Allows you to automate tasks.
   * Ex 1: Login script that maps drives for the user based on permissions or group membership.
   * Ex 2: Making the process of doing the same task on multiple machines/servers easier and faster.
   * Less error prone after repeated use compared to always doing the task manually. The script will be tried and tested.
* DNS Admin/Admin Domain: Group of machines administered as a unit. Maintained by 2+ name servers.
