Preparation

Mon 27th Jan

Show up!

Wed 29th Jan

Mon 3rd Feb

Wed 5th Feb

Mon 10th Feb

Wed 12th Feb

Mon 17th Feb

For in class:

Wed 19th Feb

Mon 24th Feb

Wed 26th Feb

Assignment due today, so no other prep. In class we'll continue to get stuck into probability theory and there will be some reading on that for next week.

Mon 2nd Mar

More probability: no prep, but you can start on the reading for Wednesday.

Wed 4th Mar

Overlapping probabiity readings:

The notes correspond fairly closely to what we've discussed in class. The OpenIntro stats ones go more deeply into conditional probability. We won't explicitly need that conditional probability material later, but if you're already comfortable with the rules we've talked about in class then you should spend your time there.

Mon 9th Mar

Wed 11th Mar

Mon 30th Mar

Welcome back! Zooooooooom.

Wed 1st Apr

The mostly-Monday track will follow the parts of the text we want to cover. Wednesdays will be where the "project" work lives. This might be the project you had in mind before break. Circumstances might have meant there's something else you want to achieve here. Come to class ready to talk about what you might want to do with half your time for the rest of the semester.

Mon 6th Apr

Have read OpenIntro Stats 4.1 on the normal distribution and practise some of the calculations (finding z-scores, finding the proportion of a population that lies in some range, finding the percentile of a measurement are the three biggies). We'll troubleshoot any difficulties you're having here. I'll also give you a whirlwind tour of other distributions (the rest of Chapter 4) but deep understanding of this won't be essential to what is coming in the rest of the semester (with the possible exception of wanting it for your project work, depending what you choose).

Wed 8th Apr

Brief individual project check-ins. Schedule:

These are to make sure that I talk with each of you. We'll certainly need more time than this on average for the rest of the semester. If what you're choosing to work on at the moment includes more project work, let's talk by email as well and/or set up some time outside of class.

Fri 10th Apr

Mon 13th Apr

Wed 15th Apr

Project People: come ready to talk for 5mins or so and answer questions on what you've done with your project work so far and what is to come. If you have one cool central piece, it's probably better to spend the time on that than to gie us a briefer overview of several different pieces.

NOTE: Delayed until next week. See also prep for Sunday 19th.

Sun 19th Apr

If one or both of the following applies to you, please email me by noon on Sunday 19th:

Mon 20th Apr

Wed 22nd Apr

Mon 27th Apr

Inferential Stats. No prep necessary.

Mon 4th May

Final wrap up. Come with any questions about the assignments or anything else.

Wed 6th May

Project Presentations. You have ten mins each to share what you've accomplished.
