Environmental Quality Committee

The Environmental Quality Committee is a Marlboro College Town Meeting Committee dedicated to ensuring proper environmental quality on campus. Usually the committee is entirely student run. Decisions are made democratically. Meetings are held in the town meeting structure.
Meeting Time
Fridays at 8:30am on the stage in the Dining Hall

Sustainability

The Environmental Quality Committee approaches sustainability at the day to day level. While other committees discuss our five year plan and policy guidelines, the EQC completes small projects. And with every small project, we change lifestyle on campus and get closer to sustainability.

Recycling

Recycling has been going on at Marlboro College since 2005 when student Rayna Mayo III requested town meeting funds to purchase recycling bins which he distributed throughout the college campus.

Composting

Composting at Marlboro began as a student initiative. The Farm Committee and the EQC then took responsibility for maintaining all parts of the composting program, including raising awareness on campus, taking out compost after community meals in the dining hall, and caring for the compost piles as they go through the decomposition process. Our committees built a compost structure and established a year-long student work-study position to monitor campus composting.
During town meeting in the Fall 2009 Semester, we proposed to expand composting responsibilities to the entire student body. Now, two students are assigned Dining Hall Duty after ever meal. Students on Dining Hall Duty are now responsible for taking the dining hall compost down to the compost structure, where the Farm Committee is responsible for regulating the compost piles.
